Old jazz -- no longer kicking

We ended our concert series Tuesday night with a jazz trio in the Théâtre de Grasse. The year in general was good, though not excellent. The high point was the first performance of the season; it was a Brecht play but as usual with these "heavy" playwrights (Brecht, Chekhov, Sartre) I found it to be full of humour and great insight. Yes, they are. Be quiet. Which Brecht play? I can't remember the title, but it follows the story of Matti, the chauffeur for a wealthy German industrialist whose daughter is causing problems.
Anyway, the final event for the year was a concert; a jazz trio led by composer/pianist Daneil Gonoye. Was it good? Asnwer 'yes' if you like old Chick Corea or Spirogyra. For us it was a bit too much music to Otis by. The high point was the floutist. Not just because he was good, but because of his weaponry. I had never before in my life seen or heard of an bass flute. It's a huge thing, held and played like a flute but about twice as long and as thick around as a respectable table leg.
So it was good talent and nice music but...

It's a Jeff! Hello there! :waves from across the ocean:

I love bass flutes. They are incredibly difficult to play.
